The work must be continued...

History
Already during his work as GTZ-employee in the PATECORE project, the founder of the sponsoring association Terra-Verde e.V. tried to develop ideas on how the farmers on the Central Plateau could continue building their stones walls after die German support (September 2006) expires.

Short portrait of founder

According to the opinion of the state supporting organization (Ministry of Agriculture) a donor rotation would have been the best solution. A new donor for PATECORE could, however, not be found, resulting in both advantages and disadvantages:

• The disadvantage is that many farmers will have to completely stop building contour stone walls for an unspecific period of time. So lots of precious time that could be used for stopping soil degradation is wasted.

• The advantage is that new means of further support have to be found thus providing a good chance of being able to continue the activities via civil society structures.

The farmers’ organizations started a new process by founding the ALCD. As early as February 2006 the first exploratory and planning talks took place on how to establish and legalize a successor organization of PATECORE without interruption of the work.

This is also when the sponsoring association Terra-Verde e.V. was founded.
